Medical Imaging Transmission
Medical images, such as those generated by Teleradiology equipment,
have large file sizes due to high resolution. Rapid transmission
between hospitals and medical centers requires high availability,
high bandwidth telecommunication services. For smaller offices
or infrequent use, a T1 data line might easily suffice. For medium
and larger facilities, DS3 or Ethernet fiber optic carriers are
recommended.
What does Convergence mean?
Convergence is the merging of voice, data and often video onto
a single network. Most often that network is a company LAN with
enough bandwidth to accommodate all users and QoS or Quality of
Service control to ensure high quality voice and video transmissions.
What's the difference between
MAN and WAN?
MAN stands for Metropolitan Area Network. MANs are set up to provide
broadband network connections within a city or metropolitan network.
WAN means Wide Area Network, a term applied to any network outside
the control of the enterprise. A MAN is a limited case of WAN.
What is PoE?
PoE means power over the Ethernet. It is a way to provide a DC
power supply over network lines to energize security cameras,
VoIP telephones, badge readers, wireless access points and other
devices that might not have an AC outlet nearby.
What is Mid-Band Ethernet?
Mid-Band Ethernet is a WAN or Wide Area Network technology that
delivers 2 to 45 Mbps over existing copper pair wiring. This bandwidth
range falls neatly in between T1 lines at 1.5 Mbps and DS3 service,
usually provided over fiber optic carriers, at 45 Mbps. As a native
Ethernet delivery system, mid-band Ethernet offers an easy way
to extend the corporate network beyond the premises.
