Medical Imaging Transmission
Medical images, such as those generated by Teleradiology equipment, have large file sizes due to high resolution. Rapid transmission between hospitals and medical centers requires high availability, high bandwidth telecommunication services. For smaller offices or infrequent use, a T1 data line might easily suffice. For medium and larger facilities, DS3 or Ethernet fiber optic carriers are recommended.

What does Convergence mean?
Convergence is the merging of voice, data and often video onto a single network. Most often that network is a company LAN with enough bandwidth to accommodate all users and QoS or Quality of Service control to ensure high quality voice and video transmissions.

What's the difference between MAN and WAN?
MAN stands for Metropolitan Area Network. MANs are set up to provide broadband network connections within a city or metropolitan network. WAN means Wide Area Network, a term applied to any network outside the control of the enterprise. A MAN is a limited case of WAN.

How does Spanning Tree Protocol work?
STP or Spanning Tree Protocol is a technique used by Ethernet switches to ensure that there is one and only one physical path from source to destination. This is done to prevent forwarding loops.

What is 2BASE-TL?
The 2BASE-TL designation refers to an Ethernet over Copper delivery technology offering 2 Mbps per copper pair over metropolitan area distances from the central office equipment. It is part of the Ethernet in the First Mile project, also known as IEEE 802.3ah. This technology leverages existing copper phone line for native Ethernet WAN services.
